What Off Road Mutt Would You Build?

No real story this time around, just a link to a collection of fairly outrageous vehicles. I’m fond of the Frankenstein Mustang II of course. I wonder what kind of frame it’s sitting on.

Brings up an interesting question: What off road mutt would you build?

Music to ‘Wheel To – Led Zeppelin Goes Digital!

ledzep.jpg

Those that have moved beyond archaic CD technology into the world of digital music, iPods, and MP3 players have probably already heard this news.

On Nov. 13, the Led Zeppelin catalog, one of the last major holdouts in legal downloadable music, will become available online. [NY Times] [Rolling Stone]

While this news is not off-road specific, it bears mentioning on Sevenmile.net. Why? Because Led Zeppelin is very high on the list of Best Tunes to ‘Wheel To, and on Nov.13 the entire Led Zeppelin catalog becomes more accessible, portable, and convenient for us all.

Besides, if you’re going to take up space with Led Zeppelin “Discs”, they should be made of Vinyl…

On the Subject of Unique, Rare, Foreign, Specialty Off Road Vehicles…

Here’s another crazy truck most of us will probably never see in person. The company is Unicat. They seem to have quite a market for Unimog variants. Check out the gallery section for more great pics from exotic locales. Now this is luxury off-road…

Thanks to RG for submission/link on this one.

Not a Pinzgauer, not a Unimog, not a HumVee. Must be a…Kamaz?

It’s been a while since I posted some mindless video entertainment, so I decided to take a little YouTube spin today.

Naturally, what I found is a cool video of some big military/industrial looking box van catching air on giant whoops to a techno soundtrack…

What kind of military vehicle, you ask? A Kamaz. What’s a Kamaz? Beats the hell out of me. So I did some research.

Turns out Kamaz is a Russian Truck manufacturer that is apparently very active in Desert Rally Racing. I also came across this blog with some great desert ‘wheelin pics, and I mean the real desert. Dubai, I think.

Trail Discovery – Peru Creek, Cinnamon Gulch

I found myself in Keystone (CO, not SD) this weekend with some time to kill and decided to do some exploring. The result was my “discovery” of Peru Creek and Cinnamon Gulch. These appear to be very well known trails, but I had never done any serious exploring in this area, so they were great new scenery for me.

Peru Creek (FR 260) is basically a mild (mostly 2wd) road that offers access to Argentine Pass. I followed Peru Creek to a locked gate. Based on internet write-ups, it appears this is a seasonal thing, with more trail to be explored on the other side of the gate. There are several abandoned mines and structures in this area, so this was a great trip for me (given my minor preoccupation with Ghost Towns). Here is the photographic evidence – sorry for the crappy quality, I only had my phone…

There are 2 main trails/spurs off of Peru Creek, Cinnamon Gulch and Chihuahua Gulch. Based on the trail descriptions, I chose Cinnamon Gulch. Fairly easy wheelin’, but it did require 4lo and a bit of crawling. The scenery and abandoned buildings were well worth the trip. This area also has the look of being a good fly fishing area, but having seen the mine tailings and color of the water I doubt there are fish to be caught here.

This would be an easy Day Trip destination and I definitely want to get back up here with another rig or two and check out Chihuahua Gulch.

I found my way around the area with some very good info and details from TrailDamage.com (which I learned about from Grin).
