Or is it just a rumor…?
Pickuptruck.com is reporting that Ford is thinking “smaller is better” with their next new pickup. Rumor has it an F-100 is in the works that will share the F-150 platform and be about 90% the size.
I’m not sure this should come as a surprise to anyone, as the market has clearly indicated that the Mid Size Truck is the way to go, and the discontinuation of the Ranger was announced a long time ago. This article specifically mentions the last gen Tundra as a size reference, and uses the Nissan Frontier/Titan configuration as an example of the success of shared platforms. (More praise for Nissan, of you ask me.)
While I think Ford is a little late to this party, I am cautiously optimistic that this is the truck I’ve been waiting for.
And for those of us that have been mourning the loss of the Bronco all these years, that icon may be making a return also. I’m not familiar with Autosavant.com, but this article lays out a very plausible scenario in which we get a quad-cab mid-size F100 AND a new Bronco to go head to head with the Jeep crowd. It’s just too good to be true…
Now we just have to hope they don’t delay with the introduction of a Raptor Version of the F-100!
