How to peel a Jeep.

I spotted this sweet low rider and had a chance to chat with the owner at a recent fuel stop.  Very cool project.

Believe it or not, those giant tires (which required some significant tub work) are pushed around by a a fairly mild 350.

No particular reason to post this…other than the very high cool-factor of this Desert Racer/Pre Runner F150.

Ok, here it is…the much anticipated VW pickup.  Why is it so anticipated?  I’m not sure…especially since it is not initially slated to appear in the US (or Europe for that matter).

Rumor has it, it employs a dual range AWD (yes AWD) system similar to the Taureg and boasts a “1 ton” capacity.

Looks to me like a scrappy little brother to the Ridgeline, but I have to admit the interior is nice and the Baywatch-inspired theme would make a cool Hot Wheel.

The questions abound:

  1. Does the clock run?
  2. Swiss or Russian movement?
  3. Why is Flavor Flav in Russia?
  4. What’s a UAZ?

While we’re on the subject of Moab.  How about a Scout Yard Sale?

Moab always has a great bunch of rigs to check out – and I miss most of them because I’m not quick enough with the camera.

On my last pass through town I noticed a lot more “local” rigs, rather than the usual trailer queen Jeeps.  Probably because it was mid summer and considered to be the off-season.

It’s worth noting that many of the most trail worthy rigs in Moab are workin’ trucks.  I suppose the IRS would view these as “company cars”…further proof that this is (still) the greatest country on earth.

Clearly, this is a company vehicle as well…

Desert Racing Anyone?

We are generally known to take the desert at a slightly more leisurely pace, but you have to admit, this looks like a helluva lot of fun.
