Your company is about to go belly up and you’re building a Ridgeline?
According to Autoblog, Chrysler (which has been canceling projects left and right lately) is considering a uni-body pickup. For some reason, many companies are now considering this route for future “truck” projects, including Toyota and GM.
I’m not sure why this is the hot new direction in trucks, given that the reference point Honda Ridgeline has reportedly been a mediocre sales performer at best.
Is the uni-body pseudo-truck the next revolution in the automotive industry? We’ll see…
I have to admit, I kind of like the body styling and that tailgate ramp.

easy on the uni-body bashing, toughy. My station wagon will wheel your boxed frame into the ground! That is one ugly ass truck-thing from the about to be history Chrysler group, though…
Ok, I’ll bite (we could both use the entertainment):
You are not actually drawing any functional parallel between a Cherokee and a Ridgeline?
If I were your truck I would be pissed.
Reasonable off-road drivers buy Cherokees. People who use pickup trucks as pickup trucks buy vehicles with frames.
Who drives a Ridgeline? Just buy an SUV…
my point being reasonable engineers can develop unibody truck/suv vehicles that are not a laughable as a ridgline or the latest Cerebus abomination… so who will buy the Jeep brand? I am actually betting on Nissan…
Ok, I agree…mostly.
I haven’t heard any rumors of Nissan buying Jeep, but it would make sense considering the recent tie-up between the 2 companies on the full size truck front.
That could be a wonderful or horrible thing, depending on which vehicles and technologies get carried over, which ones get combined, and which ones get left behind.
you haven’t heard any rumors because I pulled it out of my ass — that said, Chrysler WILL go under and sell off the peices, their capital group took a bath in other investments and is undercapitalized to start with to try and run an auto manufacturer… who will buy the pieces? Toyota wouldn’t have any interest in Jeep, having their own offroad legacy, and noone else will have the cash… that’s why I think Nissan Jeeps are in our future.
