Strong Men Drink Real Beer. Offroad. In the Phillipines.

Ah, the beauty of the internet.

Every once in a while you come across something you never would have found, predicted, or cared about, unless you were looking for the cosmic convergence of trucks, trails, mountains, beer, and rock n roll.

Today I found just such an entity in the form of NASfOR, the National Association of Filipino Off Roaders.  This organization, several thousand miles away, must surely be made up of kindred spirits.  As if the mud, rigs, and slogan weren’t enough to earn a genuine appreciation, these guys are sponsored by non other than Colt 45!  All that with the added bonus of a marketing tag that proclaims “the strong beer for real men”.

Classic.

Road Trip Report – Moab

For reasons too numerous to mention, Moab is still very close to the top of my list of favorite places on earth.

I recently had the opportunity to pass through on a business trip (really, I was working) and enjoy some warm weather wheelin’.  I even had the benefit of having Spinny along for entertainment and slave labor.

We enjoyed a blurry night out among the locals, followed by a near-epic day of ‘wheelin that included Klondike Bluffs, Gemini Bridges, and a section of Gold Bar Rim.

The Nismo performed admirably and I finally got to feel the benefit of all the upgrade$.  Proof that I didn’t do it for looks.

Non 4×4 highlights included dino tracks, desert/mountain goats, blooming prickly pears, and the usual canyon country scenery.  Photographic evidence follows.

Cooter’s Museum

It seems there are all kinds of automotive oddities  in the South.  On my current swing through TN and AL I have seen a number of big mudders, a parts and repair house specializing in Fieros, a combination muffler and bait shop and yes, Cooter’s Dukes of Hazard Museum.

No shit, this place actually exists.

No, I did not stop to check it out, but I will admit it was very tempting.  If nothing else, I want to know why the General Lee is a Toyota Tercel.

A Different Spin on the DUI

Underage and unable to enter a real bar for some liquid recreation, an Ohio man decided to enjoy a few drinks on his own barstool.

Unfortunately, the barstool in question was motorized.

Several lapses of judgement later (a few for the road?) the man managed to get his barstool to travel at an impressive, but uncontrollable, 20+ mph.  This led to a probably less-than-spectacular crash and a DUI arrest.

Noooooooo! Not the Beer!

Senseless tragedy struck this week near Syracuse, as a semi carrying Budweiser slid into a culvert.

Reports indicate there was no fuel spill involved.  Details of beer casualties were not immediately available.
